MA-5 is a versatile hybrid sound chip incorporating various different synthesizers. It incorporates FM, WaveTable, PCM Streaming, AL (Analog Lite) synthesizer. It is capable of playing back up to 64 note-polyphony, which enriches sound and enhances expression of effect and stereo feeling.

FM synthesizer has been a well-known technology for multimedia PC. It can create virtually any voice only with some ten bytes of FM voice parameter. Ring tone with FM voice parameters can be easily sent over the air. Besides, crisper, clearer and more identifiable voices generated by FM synthesizer are very suitable for ring tones.
Additionally, WaveTable synthesizer of MA-5 can reproduce the voices stored in ROM and any external voice in ADPCM/PCM form.

AL (Analog Lite) synthesizer is newly supported by MA-5. Analog Synthesizer is widely known in DTM (Desk Top Music). MA-5 equips fundamental function of that Analog Synthesizer. Using time-variant low pass filter, it enables changes of voices that cannot be done by the previous generation sound chip. Those filter sweep effects are common in electronic music genres and current popular music, such as Pops, Hip-Hop and Techno.

MA-5 has built-in circuits to control an LED and a vibrator synchronized to the music. It also supports a power down mode.
