SMAF is a multimedia data format invented by Yamaha. The SMAF specification defines a format for multimedia files which can be played back on hand-held portable devices. At present, SMAF is chiefly used for creating ring tones for mobile phones.
Yamaha also manufactures various sound chips which are expressly designed to play back SMAF audio files. These chips feature in many of today's mobile phones and other hand-held devices.
